Today is June 3rd – the day after the election we’ve all been working towards.  My heart swells with gratitude for all of you who supported me, stood by me as we waited for the re-scheduled date, and turned out to vote and work the polls yesterday.   The vote count shows that we are 45 votes short.  So I will be waiting for the official final count that includes provisional voters.  From now until November, we must all fight for every vote to be counted in this critical election year.

I want to reflect on this moment in our country.  As you my supporters know, it never mattered to me whether I had a title to add to my name.  I ran because I wanted to make a difference on the issues – greater access for every person who wants training for a good job with a stable future, public institutions that demonstrate responsiveness and respect for all of its constituencies, and more fairness and opportunities for women and people of color – those too often left behind in our community and across the nation.  The pain I see in today’s news coverage is a vivid reminder that my work on the issues is not done.  Whatever the final outcome of this election, I look forward to working together with you in 2020 to make a difference on the issues that matter to all of us.

Do I live in Subdistrict 2? Can I Vote for Cindy Adams?
These are just a couple of questions I have encountered in the past. While this is not a great map, it does give an idea of what all the Metropolitan Community College subdistrict looks like. Mine is #2 and lies in both Jackson and Clay Counties.
The majority of the district in Jackson Co. lies between State Line Rd to the west and Prospect St. to the east. From the Missouri River to the north and 95th St. to the south. However the are some cut-ins and bump outs to those lines. The majority of the district in Clay Co. lies between US Hwy 169 to the west and I-29 to the east. From I-29 to the north and the Missouri River to the South. The Clay Co. portion of the district also has some cut-in and bump-outs.
Here is the walking description of the district.
Subdistrict 2
From the northwest corner of Jackson County (State Line Rd and the Missouri River), east along the Jackson/Clay County Line to US 169 Hwy (Broadway Fwy), then north along US 169 Hwy (Broadway Fwy) to M-9 Hwy, then west along M-9 Hwy to Briarcliff Pkwy, then northeast on Briarcliff Pkwy to Mulberry Dr, then north on Mulberry Dr to I-29, then east and south along I-29 to Missouri Pacific Railroad, then east along Missouri Pacific Railroad to Chestnut Trfy, then south on Chestnut Trfy to Independence Ave, then west on Independence Ave to Prospect Ave, then south on Prospect Ave to Hickman Mills Dr, then southeast on Hickman Mills Dr to US HWY 71, then South on US Hwy 71to Blue River Rd, then southwest on Blue River Rd to Indiana Ave, then south on Indiana Ave to Gable Rd, then west on Gable Rd to Grandview Rd, then south on Grandview Rd to 95th St (Bannister Rd), then west on 95thSt (Bannister Rd) to Holmes Rd, then south on Holmes Rd to I-435, then west on I-435 to State Line Rd, then north on State Line Rd and the Missouri/Kansas State Line to the point of beginning.

MCC Update-COVID-19

These are unprecedented events, and our students are facing unique and manifold challenges.  Many have lost jobs, are trying to home school their children, look after older loved ones, and make the adjustment to a virtual classroom environment.  However, not all students have access to the necessary technology to complete classes as they will now be offered.

If you are a student and do not have a laptop or desktop of your own, please notify your academic advisor immediately.  The college has limited resources, but we cannot begin to find solutions until we understand the extent of the challenges everyone is facing.

I know that this is not the way you intended to take your classes, but MCC wants to help you be as successful as possible.  Please be kind to yourself, and know that we believe in you.

Coronavirus

Gov. Parson delays April 7th election to June 2nd. I have suspended door to door campaigning and will work on campaign from home. I hope that all are safe and following CDC recommendations for social distancing.
