Today is June 3rd – the day after the election
we’ve all been working towards. My heart swells with gratitude for all of
you who supported me, stood by me as we waited for the re-scheduled date, and
turned out to vote and work the polls yesterday. The vote count
shows that we are 45 votes short. So I will be waiting for the official
final count that includes provisional voters. From now until November, we
must all fight for every vote to be counted in this critical election year.
I want to reflect on this moment in our country. As
you my supporters know, it never mattered to me whether I had a title to add to
my name. I ran because I wanted to make a difference on the issues –
greater access for every person who wants training for a good job with a stable
future, public institutions that demonstrate responsiveness and respect for all
of its constituencies, and more fairness and opportunities for women and people
of color – those too often left behind in our community and across the
nation. The pain I see in today’s news coverage is a vivid reminder that
my work on the issues is not done. Whatever the final outcome of
this election, I look forward to working together with you in 2020 to make a
difference on the issues that matter to all of us.
