Difficult Virus New

This has been a scary week with new urgency every day about the threat the COVID-19 virus presents to our region.  The importance of social distancing became a new reality in all our lives.  For me, this means postponing a dream I had to meet as many of you as possible between now and the April 7 election.  I’ve been walking my MCC voting district—seeking to talk to voters about my aspirations for continued service on Metropolitan Community College’s Board of Trustees.

And, while I am still striving to walk as many neighborhoods as possible, I will not be knocking on any doors.  Out of respect for the call to limit physical contact to slow the spread of this virus, I will only be leaving a flyer of information about my candidacy.

My sincere wish is for each and every one of us to maintain good health and human connection during this crisis.  Let’s use our devices to stay in touch— especially with those most vulnerable in our neighborhoods.  I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the folks in healthcare, public safety and many more who go to work every day to protect us all during this critical time.

Summer and Fall Classes

Enrollment for Summer and Fall 2020 classes will begin in early April.  If you are thinking about attending college, MCC is a good choice.  Due to a state-wide agreement, most of the courses from the first two years of an undergraduate degree will transfer seamlessly from MCC to public, 4-year colleges and universities in the state.  And, MCC is much more affordable.  For the current semester, MCC’s tuition is $107/credit hour for an in-person class while UMKC’s tuition and fees (up to the first 12 hours, many of the fees drop off after that) are approximately $350/credit hour.  Given the costs of college, it makes sense to start your academic career with MCC.

FAFSA

FAFSA—the Free Application for Federal Student Aid—has been available for filing since February 1.  The priority deadline for Fall 2020 is May 2020.  This does not mean that folks should wait to fill out this form.  Many scholarship applications require a completed FAFSA in order to apply.  So, If you or a member of your family is considering attending college next fall, please follow the link below to start the application process for MCC!
